Even if you can only afford to spend say 1% of your income for some supplies, it would be a tremendous start on your part. Plus you'll enjoy the peace-of-mind that comes along with knowing you are prepared.
Based upon our many years of experience and continuing research, we are of the opinion that there are just too many different possible emergency scenarios for anyone to justly dismiss and ignore them all. Someday, you and your family's welfare could depend upon your level of preparedness. For example, lets say the odds of a natural or man made disaster occurring and affecting you (within the next ten years) is as low as 1-5%; this is enough to cause major concern to many people. We believe the odds are much higher when factoring in all of the potential economic issues. Recent surveys have indicated that the average American believes the odds of a major disaster occurring in the U.S., within the next 10 years to be 30-40%. So the question is, what third percent are you?
The Warning Signs
The average American is said to have a 3-day food supply on hand. Sounds ridiculous. Most Americans are simply misguided into thinking they can always count on having easy access to utilities, food, water, and security. Why? Well apparently, many people assume the government will always be able to provide for the entire country's population in all types of disasters. In spite of the fact that even state and federal government agencies don't agree and have repeatedly warned all Americans to have at least a minimum of 3-14 days worth of food and water supplies. Such guidelines really represent short term survival scenarios. In addition, there are the many longer-term scenarios for you to consider as well. Preparing for a week or two is better than nothing. However, we strongly urge everyone to consider preparing for more extended periods of time.
In addition, recent economic concerns tied to the troubled US dollar and Euro has more people concerned. The future possibility of hyper-inflation hitting the U.S. is a common cause for concern to many. If hyper-inflation were to occur, its often predicted that food and other vital supplies could become very expensive and in short supply. If nothing else, you must admit that an economic depression is certainly a possibility. In such circumstances, those individuals who have stocked surplus food supplies will fare the best in troubled times.
Ultimately, whatever action you decide to take, is up to you! This site is provided to inform people and give everyone the opportunity to start their own emergency preparedness action plan. We encourage you to do so.
