Survivalist Verses Prepper(s) The term survivalist has been commonly used for many decades here in the U.S. Now the term prepper has become very common as well. The old TV show Doomsday Preppers certainly gave even more attention to the term. Although, the term Pepper is not really all that new, it’s certainly growing in popularity. Many people believe the two terms are interchangeable and basically mean the same thing. However, there are plenty of others, who disagree and believe there are some important differences between the two terms and that people fit into one group or the other. If there is a difference, perhaps the following will come close to describing some of the possible differences we see between the two. Preppers are often people who tend to stockpile foods and supplies with the intention of either staying in their home or retreating to a more remote location such as a cabin or other type of planned shelter. Also, they may not be as trained or experienced at outdoor survival techniques as are some of the survivalist. Survivalists are often more likely to have experience in outdoor survival. Some may even have a military background or some outdoor survival training. This would include also highly skilled hunters, woodsmen etc. Their plans may lean more towards being capable of becoming mobile in times of trouble and capable of moving as needed, to whatever resources are available. Consequently, they are less likely to feel limited and required to remain stationary at their current residence location. Top of Page
